THE BIG MOVE

THE BIG MOVE

The question I get more often than none in regards to where I'm from is, " Why did you move to Indiana?" The answer I usually give is, my husband's work brought us here.  In reality, it was much more than my husband's work.  In 2007 my hus…

The question I get more often than none in regards to where I'm from is, " Why did you move to Indiana?" The answer I usually give is, my husband's work brought us here.  In reality, it was much more than my husband's work.

In 2007 my husband wanted to take me on a trip to Owensboro Kentucky to visit his Father.   Wow how exciting, I've wanted to go to Owensboro! Clearly, I had never heard of the place until my husband told me about it. What sealed the deal for me was when he told me Johnny Depp was born in Owensboro.  Its gotta be cool if he was born there, right?  I remember arriving in Owensboro at night with my foufou dog in her fancy carry-on bag. When I got out of the car I thought my skin was melting from the humidity.  I remember thinking how is it 10 O'clock and this hot!  After one day of sightseeing everything there was to see in Owensboro, his father told us there was a historic town across the river, Newburgh Indiana.  So off we went to Indiana.  From the moment we drove through the beautiful tunnel of trees that opened up to the river, we knew this was a special place.  Everything was so green and lush, the river was so close and the houses were huge and amazing.  I made us drive through the neighborhoods so I could get a better look at the historic homes.  We started up the backside of Jennings past State Street and Main.  I was in awe with the beautiful homes and the large lots, you just don't get that in Southern California.  We drove until we hit the last street, and there on the top of the hill was a shabby little farmhouse with a for sale sign in the yard.  For some crazy reason I was completely drawn to this home.  I immediately saw the potential, I knew I had to have it.  The only problem was we lived in California and weren't planning on moving to the area anytime soon, if at all.  Long story short we went back to California and two weeks later bought the house in Newburgh. Trey took a job in Washington DC for a year to get more work experience and my son and I packed our little life up and  moved to Indiana to live in this shabby farmhouse.  I still look back and can't believe we blindly purchased a house from across the country in a town we visited for an hour.   Crazy, seriously crazy, but ultimately my gut was right and moving here was the best decision our little family has ever made.

So the answer to the question as to why I moved here from California, it was for the the love of a farmhouse, and the hope for a slower simpler life.  And we all know there is nothing simple about me so I clearly haven't slowed done yet.  A leap of faith and a huge gamble brought me to good ol' Indiana!

I'm a risk taker and a big dreamer., but making my dreams a reality is my true passion.

Here are some before and after pics of the farm house.  I will post more about this transformation on a future blog.
